Ruth Roman is the youngest daughter of Lithuanian and Jewish parents Mary Pauline Gold (Gold) & Abraham Roman in Lynn, Massachusetts. Her father's death as a carnival barker, when Ruth was just a little girl and she was forced to keep the family going by working as a cleaner and a server. Ruth was born in a poor neighborhood of Boston Massachusetts in which she went to high school. After only two school years, Ruth left to pursue an acting profession. There were many hurdles to overcome on her chosen career path. In New York she was hired to do a photo shoot for a publication about crime however, no theatre opportunities were offered. As a hat check girl at a nightclub she quit and returned to Boston. There, she made the ends meet by working by working as an usher throughout the day, and at night performing in the New England Repertory Company, her first steady acting job. The study of drama helped her to earn her degree from Bishop-Lee Theatre School.
